Portal: my dream

When I opened my eyes, I saw a ghost-town. Old houses some windows were broken, it was silent, there were no people or animals. I searched for food, water and shelter. It's been already 4 days since I escaped out of that... that... well... I don't want to talk about it... it's behind me, I need to move on. I found an old hotel, luckily that it was intact. It had a bed, a table, a chair, a closet, a toilet and a shower, more than enough for me. When I was taking a look outside, I saw something that took my attention. It was shining, I ran the stairs off and went closer to it. When I picked it up it appeared to be a piece of "her". I fell back and threw it away as far as I could, it hit an old car.

After that, weeks, months, years past... I started to wonder how this ghost-town had enough food, water, electricity. One day, a truck came by, someone stepped out of it. I stared at the person from out my window, he wore a half blue half white cap and a blue overalls. Out of curiosity I went downstairs and followed him with my eyes, once he was sitting on the drivers seat, I opened up the back of the truck and closed it behind me. I don't know for how long it was, a couple of minutes until we stopped I suppose. I heard the man stepping out and I hid behind some boxes. After some minutes, I think five minutes, I stood up and jumped out of the truck. I looked around, I was in an underground parking place. Someone or something hit me with a heavy tool on the back of my head and I fell knock out on the ground.

When I woke up, I was in a dark room. "Science isn't bzzz why, it's about why no-not. Y-You-Y-You ask bzzzzzz bzzzzzz why not marry safe science if you bzzzz so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are bzzzzzzzzzzzzz" I stood up quickly "…" I knew where I was… I knew it…

"Remember, the Aperture Science Bring Your Daughter to Work Day is the perfect time to have her tested."

I found a door and opened it up. At the end of the hall I froze up. Red lasers were shining at the other side of the wall, turrets, I tried to look for another way out, I was able to sneak up behind them and throw them over. "AH!!" the robot began shooting in random directions. "It's okay… I don't blame you…" it said, I began to cry, I was back, back in that devilish maze! Then I noticed, there was a camera, a red eyed camera stared at me, I pulled it off the wall and kept it with me through all hallways as a sort of weapon. I came in a big room. It was white. Suddenly I saw an exit. I quickly went into an elevator, but then I saw her. "So.. it looks like, YOU are still alive…" she came after me, I quickly closed the elevator doors and it went up. When I stepped out the elevator, I was in the same room again. She stared at me. I quickly made it look like I stepped in the elevator again, she became angrier and angrier.  I hid behind some companioncubes. "Come out, wherever you are…" I was so afraid I sneaked up behind her with a hammer I found. I slammed it as hard as I could on her. No sooner she was laying in pieces on the ground. She looked pitiful at me, I suddenly heard something.

"Installing Caroline 10 percent" I looked at GLaDOS, her yellow eye like light was shining weakly. "Installing Caroline 45 percent" I blinked my eyes, a fade hologram was shining on a wall. "Installing Caroline 90 percent" A woman looked straight forward, she, she looked like.
"Chell… I'm, we're so sorry, I didn't want to leave you alone… but my work needs to go on. After this message my whole memory will be re-ordered, my moments with you will be erased and my job, my function, all instructions to rules this whole company will be downloaded in a computer program called GLaDOS. I hope you can forgive me for all what I did. I … Bzzzzz bzzz… bzzzz Lo bzzzz love bzzzz bzzzz"  
"Error, program file: Caroline not found. Installing progress will break down." The yellow eye of GLaDOS began to stop glowing. I fell on my knees and grabbed her, I cried, I had never cried that hard. I, if I knew this earlier. Why did no one ever told me about this?!
I looked around, the whole room was shaking. It appeared now that Caroline crashed, GLaDOS wasn't able to restore things. "Self destruction in 10 minutes."  I looked around, I couldn't find a portal gun to get me back to the surface, also the elevator was stuck between two giant rocks. I looked around, "Self destruction in 3 minutes." I cried. Suddenly the yellow eye began to look at me. "…" a portal opened up. It showed the old ghost town. I looked at the white robot face. "Go… away… Chell…"

"Caroline installing has finished. Caroline is installed." I suddenly heard.

I hugged the robot tightly but a giant arm grabbed me and swung me through the portal, I fell on the hard burning asphalt.

"Doctor, how is her state?"
"I don't know.. she might be able to recover."
"Oh she's responding"
I opened my eyes, I was laying in a hospital bed. At my side were two nurses and one doctor.
"Chell? Are you okay?" a woman walked in, "Oh thank god. You're fine." The woman smiled at me stroking my hair. "How's she?" a man came in.
"She's alright, you don't need to worry, a few more days in the hospital and she'll be as good as old." The doctor said and walked away, the two nurses followed shortly after him.

"Chell, when you're out of the hospital. I'll bake you a big delicious cake. Would you like that?" the woman sat on the edge of my bed. The man looked at me "I'm glad nothing bad happened." He laughed, his voice.. it sounded like the one of … of… who was it again.
The woman stood up. "Well, we need to go now... I'm sorry that we have to leave so soon. But we need to get back to work." The man said, "Caroline, we need to talk." He coughed a bit, "Yes sir mr Johnson." She gave me a kiss on my cheek and walked after him.
